What We Do

At Post & Lintel, we get you back in touch with your home.

Like many people these days, you’ve moved around in your life and called more than one place home over the years.

There’s one in particular, however, that stands out. You were born there, or you grew up there, or perhaps you used to spend your summers there in your teens, or maybe you left it behind just recently. Although you’ve since moved on, there’s a warm, nostalgic spot in your heart for that place you used to call “home” – it has stayed with you, and your thoughts often take you back to that old familiar place.

You have a powerful emotional connection, but the physical contact with that home is gone. What you have left are lots of warm memories and some old photos.

At Post & Lintel by Krzysztof Debicki, we create a bespoke architectural portrait for you – this is a custom-made painting of your home, whether for you that means a building, a street, a neighbourhood, or a city, whether from 5 or 35 years ago.

Using your memories and photos, and through interviews, and location visits if possible,

together with you we create a portrait of your home that will stay with you forever.

Like bespoke clothing, the architectural portrait is tailor-made to fit you perfectly.

At Post & Lintel by Krzysztof Debicki, we create a bespoke architectural portrait for you – this is a custom-made painting of your home, whether for you that means a building, a street, a neighbourhood, or a city, whether from 5 years ago or 25 years go.

Using memories, photos, interviews, and location visits, we work together with you to create a portrait of your home that will stay with you forever.

Like bespoke clothing, the architectural portrait is tailor-made to fit you perfectly.

Step 1 – Introduction
Get in touch with me. Tell me about the home you have in mind: what kind of portrait are you thinking of having painted? Will it be a portrait of a building, a street, or a whole city? Where do you plan to hang the painting? What size? What style?

Step 2 – Research
Once we’ve agreed on all the details of the painting, a contract is signed and I set to work researching the subject, collecting photographs and other information (either from you, from the public domain, or ideally by visiting the place myself). I begin to prepare some concept sketches.

Step 3 – Interviews
The most important part of the research process is the interviews. I speak with you in depth in order to find out as much as I can about your experience of your former home: why it’s important for you, what images stand out, which parts of the building(s), streets, or spaces you remember most vividly, etc. We go through the research material and the concept sketches and make important content and style decisions together. It is your connection to the home and your sharing of those memories with me that allow me to establish a strong connection with the architecture and, in combination with my own research, paint a lasting bespoke architectural portrait.

Step 4 – Production
I lock myself in the studio with your memories, your experiences, the archival material, my own research, and our finalized concept and set to work on the painting in the agreed upon time and parameters (size, medium, material, style, etc).

To avoid distraction there is little contact between artist and client in this period. You may receive updates, but it is very likely you won't hear from me until the portrait is complete.

Step 5 – Delivery
The final product immortalizes your special emotional connection with architecture in the form of a painting of the highest artistic quality using only select museum-grade material and media.

The artwork is delivered to you only once I am 100% satisfied with the result.
You accept the portrait only once you are 100% satisfied with the result.

This is my promise and my guarantee.

Testimonials

“I am absolutely in love with this painting. It’s quite an experience to have someone project your private memories onto a canvas. Krzysztof’s selection of elements out of so many photos and the way he’s translated those pictures and the accompanying emotions are so appropriate that it’s almost eerie. I have a genuine admiration for his sensitivity and empathy. Not to speak of his actual enormous talent as a painter. It has been a wonderful privilege to do this project with him. I look forward to the next one!”
- Ana S. (Luanda)
“Whilst living in Osaka, Japan I became aware of Krzysztof as an international artist heavily influenced by architecture. Seeing his work in local businesses and galleries, I was massively impressed by his ability to find the hidden character of the buildings and structures that were the subjects of his works. When my time in Japan came to an end, wanting an artistic reminder of my stay there, I sought him out to produce a work portraying the inner city suburb in which i lived, Minami Semba. The resulted work was unquestionably the area I resided, with the urban chaos of the area perfectly encapsulated, however to the piece he added colours, lines and strokes that for me, truly conveyed the excitement and sheer fascination or this district, where work and nightlife smash directly into each other. Truly an exceptional artist.”
- Ben F. (Melbourne)
“I’ve long been interested in architecture, the built environment and urban form. Having been lucky enough to see a wide range of Krzysztof’s work, I feel he has a unique ability to communicate urban experience, culture and context through his art. All this comes through so richly in this piece, a street scene in Nice, and captivated my imagination from first sight. It’s a true treasure.”
- Edward B. (Toronto)
“Although I left so many years ago, Krzysztof’s painting brought back the memories of the city I was born and raised in. He truly captured the spirit of the city streets – his painting hanging on my wall takes me happily back to the days when I used to walk them.”
- Dimitri F. (St Petersburg)
“I have always been drawn to Krzysztof’s architectural drawings and paintings. For me, he captures the static intensity of urban landscapes perfectly. This ability I believe allows him to resurrect the soul of a lost architectural promise.”
- Jules F. (Sydney)
“The painting reminds me of Japanese ink-painting. It is beautiful art. Its minimalistic style gives philosophical aspects to the painting.”

Pricing

Prices are based on the size, material, medium, and complexity of the work. Each commission is a bespoke architectural portrait.

The artwork produced is custom-made and one-of-a-kind.

As a benchmark, commissioning a portrait like the one in the image to the left (160 x 200cm, acrylic, graphite, and ink on 100% linen canvas) starts at 2300 EUR* whereas a portrait like the one on the right (60 x 80cm, gouache, Japanese brush pen, ink wash, and graphite on archival, acid-free paper) start at 950 EUR*.

A portrait takes anywhere from 3-9 months to complete.

Feel free to contact me if you have any questions or if you would like a detailed estimate on an architectural portrait you're considering.

*Final prices vary depending on intensity and complexity of the project, however the first price quoted is always the final price, and will never change once the contract has been signed and project started.
